PT106 Case Conceptualization

Play therapy is a therapeutic approach primarily used with children, making it essential for therapists to develop a theoretical framework to formulate treatment goals, plans, and specific skills during the course.  The workshop is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the theory and practice of case conceptualization in play therapy. The workshop will cover the skills to formulate a comprehensive understanding of a child's presenting issues, including emotional, behavioral, and relational factors, by using a Child-centered play therapy perspective.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of play therapy as a therapeutic modality, including its history, principles, and key techniques.
     

  2. Using the Child-centered play therapy perspective, Participants will Develop the ability to comprehensively understand a child's presenting issues, including emotional, behavioral, and relational factors, through the lens of Child-centered play therapy.
     

  3. Participants will gain awareness and skills related to cultural competence and diversity in play therapy practice, ensuring that therapeutic interventions are sensitive to the cultural backgrounds and identities of children and their families.
     

  4. Participants will apply theoretical knowledge through hands-on practice and analysis of case studies, reinforcing the ability to effectively use play therapy in real-world scenarios.
     

  5. Participants will develop skills in documenting therapy sessions and communicating progress to relevant stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability in the therapeutic process.

  • Play therapy credit may be awarded to graduate students enrolled in a graduate mental health program or individuals who hold a graduate mental health degree in counselling, marriage and family therapy, psychiatry, psychology, or social work.

Instructor: Ms. Wing LEUNG (RCC, RPT-S)

Wing Leung is a registered clinical counsellor and play therapy supervisor with extensive counselling experience and over a decade of teaching expertise. Her educational background includes serving as a lecturer in colleges and instructing students at various educational levels, ranging from secondary and primary schools to kindergartens and specialized childcare centers.

With a solid foundation in early childhood education, Wing possesses an in-depth understanding of the diverse developmental requirements of children, including those with special needs and exceptionally gifted children. Her primary focus lies in providing comprehensive and professional counselling to parents and children, recognizing and cherishing the unique potential inherent in each individual.
